Kentucky Trailer Opens a New Facility in New Hudson

When you see a semi on the road, most likely you are seeing a Kentucky Trailer product.  Kentucky Trailer is the nation's leading custom trailer manufacturer, manufacturing trucks and trailers for a slew of storage and moving facilities, including the prominent North American Van Lines. They dominate 99% of the market for custom storage trailer manufacturing and have been in business as Kentucky Trailer for 77 years, though they can trace their roots back 133 years when they made wagons and cars.

The fourth-generation family-owned company employs about 400 people and is headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, though they have one facility in Walled Lake and are about to celebrate the grand opening of their second Michigan location in New Hudson.

The company's separate divisions include Kentucky High Tech Performance Trailers, specializing in race transporters for the motorsports market; Kentucky Trailer Technologies, based in Walled Lake and offering a wide variety of custom specialty vehicles; and Kentucky Trailer Paint and Reconditioning, which now has three facilities throughout the country with the most recent opening in New Hudson.

“Oakland County is welcomes Kentucky Trailer’s continued growth in our communities,” said Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, “and we will be an active partner in supporting their workforce development needs.”

On Wednesday, April 17 at 1 p.m., they are holding an opening ceremony with a ribbon cutting, facility tour, refreshments and door prizes at their new New Hudson service facility located at 53000 Grand River Avenue. The 46,000-square-foot building is the third service and reconditioning facility in the country for Kentucky Trailer, the other two are in Louisville and the Los Angeles area.  This location will employ about 30 technicians and will service, repair and recondition all trailers in the Kentucky Trailer fleet, whether the trailer is missing panels, having issues with its ABS brakes, needs new tires or just an oil change, the New Hudson facility is where all this work is done. If an owner or driver wants painting, graphics, or other aftermarket service, that can be done here, too.

Kentucky Trailer has several Michigan-based clients including 2 Men and a Truck, Palmer Moving and Storage, Rose Moving and Storage, Pilot Transport, Select 1 Transport, Stevens Worldwide Van Lines, and Corrigan Moving Systems based in Farmington Hills.
