Youth Abilities Saturday Sports Special gives kids of all abilities an opportunity to freely play

The Oakland County Parks and Recreation Department's program Youth Abilities Saturday Sports Special started over 10 years ago as a cooperative program with the Boys & Girls Club of South Oakland County. This free program is designed for children with disabilities aged 6-18 to keep them happy, healthy, and active during the long winter months.

2017 marks the tenth year for the flagship Brooksie Way Half Marathon, the road race named in memory of Brooks Stuart Patterson, Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson's 28-year-old son who died in a tragic snowmobile accident. The Brooksie Way now encompasses two popular annual road races, a minigrant program that supports health and fitness initiatives throughout the county, and a variety of family-friendly events.
